Blog Post #3

The Horizon report form K-12 is a report made that tells you the possible impact of upcoming technology in the educational field. Also, they put important time into looking at 6  trends, 6 significant challenges, and 6 important developments in educational technology. This report is looking into the teacher and rethinking how the teachers are and how they will be. There is a major focus on teachers using technology is the classroom. Deeper learning approaches are another aspect of this report they want the children to gain a better understanding of the material given. The report really is interested in online learning and how it will affect the children that get to use it. This report is really interesting to look at to see how much we as future educators are going to have to use technology in the classrooms. Also, I think that hybrid learning is a very good thing, but it has its limits.  I think it would be best used from 5th grade and up because of the level of knowledge the kids will have.  I do think it is a great tool because kids will have a greater knowledge of subjects and the use of computers. Something I read that I do not like is flipped learning. Flipped learning may work in some states, but to me it seems like the job of teacher isn't really to teach. For me I want to teach children and of there is homework send them home with it. I guess I am just old fashioned in the way I think, but I just feel like it would not work very well. Furthermore, I think creating authentic learning situations and real life experience in the classroom is very important. For me as a future special education teacher I will be doing this alot with my students , and I think it works great for general education also.  Moreover, personalized learning is what each teacher should try to do for there students. It is not an easy task to do , but it can be done.  In special education I will be dealing with many different types of disabilities and I will have to adapt my lesson plans to fit all children.

  1. Technology has its advantages and disadvantages. Some people understand it, which is great and can be more beneficial to that person rather than the person who is not up to date on the later technology. I think if schools want to integrate technology and internet learning, they should have some type of training workshops for not only the teachers, but the students and their parents as well.

  2. I think using technology in the classroom can be beneficial in a lot of ways as long as the teachers are prepared and know how to use technology. I have had experiences when teacher try to use technology but do not even know how to do the simplest tasks on a computer. I think deeper learning strategies are a good way to help students learn. It makes students learn by creating projects and products that benefit them in the real world. A fact I found interesting about the article that I talked about was authentic learning. This type of learning focuses on real world problems and their solutions.

  3. Technology has its advantages and disadvantages just like everything. I feel since everyone is going to have to utilize technology, we as future educators have to go far and beyond the classroom and extend our expertise to the families and their household.
